Tokyo government ensures safe drinking tap water

Tokyo [Japan], Feb. 14 (ANI): Water in Japanese capital Tokyo is provided by the Bureau of Waterworks Tokyo Metropolitan Government. The quality of tap water in this city is great and it is just like drinking bottled water.

The Bureau of Waterworks Tokyo is in charge of supplying tap water in Tokyo.

The water leakage percentage from pipes placed underground is very low. The percentage stands now at 3.2 percent, which is a very low when compared to leakage rates in similar sized cities around the world.

"We are trying to have more people to understand what "Tokyo water" means in terms of taste and safety," said Naoki Ueno of the Bureau of Waterworks Tokyo Metropolitan Government.

"We continue to provide the advanced technologies that we acquired in Tokyo to the people in Asia and Africa, and we hope to see the improvement of waterworks and further developments in many countries," Ueno added.

The Bureau of Waterworks has a training and development center where you can learn about the high technology of water supply that Tokyo has.

It has been holding technical support for the Asian countries since 1965.

The trainees involved in the water supply management from Myanmar are currently learning about the technical support of water supply.

By having Tokyo's most advanced technology experienced through practical training facilities, trainees can make use of the knowledge and technology related to the improvement of water management.

This project has been coordinated with Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and concerned embassies and now accepts more than 300 trainees from overseas countries.

An electronic leak detector is used to identify differences in leakage sounds due to the piping material, identify areas of leaks, and listen to differences in the way leaks sound and the various sound levels due to different types of paving.

"I experienced a lot of things, including lectures and practice in this training. In the lecture, I could understand the process of the development of waterworks technology in Tokyo. We are currently facing the leak problem in our country and I have learned about the proper way of solving this problem through the practical training. I am very much glad about learning the knowledge of advanced technologies from the expert staffs," a trainee from Myanmar said. (ANI)
